Poachers Cottage
Poachers Cottage, Bryngwyn, Wormelow, Hereford, Herefordshire, HR2 8EQ, United Kingdom
Supporting you
At Poachers Cottage we support eight people who have learning disabilities and complex physical needs including epilepsy and Peg feeding.
The people living here have a range of communication needs and staff are trained and experienced in supporting everyone in the way that they prefer – from verbal communication to picture formats and person-specific communication techniques. Each individual has a detailed communication plan which is updated continually. A lot of the residents have iPads to help with their communication needs.
A Speech and Language Therapist visits once a week to provide speech therapy and training for staff. Private physiotherapy and rebound hydrotherapy are also available.
Each individual is supported to plan a weekly timetable of activities, both inside and outside of the home, which enable them to develop skills, work towards goals or simply enjoy themselves. Activities the people we support currently enjoy include horse riding, bowling, walks in the countryside and music sessions.
Residents are also supported to carry out all aspects of daily living and encouraged to participate in household decisions through regular home meetings. The people who live here are encouraged to be as independent as possible and are supported to attend appointments, social activities and work if they choose.
Most individuals have their own mobility transport, however the home also has their own car.
Facilities
Poachers Cottage is a bright, roomy building with a large lounge and a separate room for arts, crafts and activities, a kitchen, a large sensory/relaxation area and a dining area.
We have beautiful grounds ideal for barbecues or just relaxing. The outside areas are wheelchair accessible and suitable for individuals with mobility difficulties.
The eight bedrooms are all on one floor and each has its own en-suite toilet and wash facilities, with some also having en-suite showers. There is a large shared bathroom within the home.
